Free pop-up medical, vision and dental clinic is just a week away

HSC & Remote Area Medical to bring free care to Dallas for those who are underserved and uninsured.

The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth and Remote Area Medical – RAM® — a nonprofit provider of pop-up clinics that delivers free quality dental, vision and medical care to those in need — are bringing the free health care clinic to Dallas on Dec. 3 and 4.

After the success of last year’s clinic in North Fort Worth, RAM and HSC have partnered once again. Moving the clinic to Dallas allows the organizations to serve a larger population in a location accessible through public transportation.

HSC’s partnership with RAM allows the university’s students to not only serve their community but also get firsthand experience treating patients. Students will be paired with a licensed physician to help guide and teach them every step of the way.

“I learned about RAM this summer and its impact on our community,” said Jesse Tamayo, a second-year student in HSC’s Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. “For many, this is the only opportunity they have to access health care. It is a privilege to be able to apply the skills I have learned to help those in need.”

The services RAM will offer include dental cleanings, fillings, extractions and X-rays; eye exams, glaucoma testing and eyeglasses prescriptions with glasses made on site; women’s heath exams; and general medical exams. RAM services are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Services are free, and no ID is required.

This year’s event will be held at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, 650 S. Griffin St., in Dallas. Both the Amtrak and Trinity Railway Express go to Dallas Union Station, just 2.5 miles from the convention center.
