Regulation of Coronary Blood Flow During Exercise in Health

and Disease”.

The past 60 years have greatly advanced our understanding of the regulation of coronary blood flow and have demonstrated the robustness and plasticity of the coronary vascular bed in providing optimal O2 supply to the working myocardium. This is highlighted in the tight regulation of coronary blood flow during exercise. In my presentation I will discuss the effects of exercise on coronary blood flow and its transmural distribution, as well as its vascular and extravascular determinants. I will then discuss the mechanisms that control coronary resistance vessel tone during exercise, followed by a discussion of the role of coronary microvascular perturbations in cardiovascular disease.
