CARES Act Relief Fund for Students

President Michael Williams sent this message to all students and employees on May 19, 2020:

HSC Team,

The CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund approved by Congress included funding to higher education institutions to defray COVID-19-related costs to the institution and to provide emergency financial aid grants to assist students with expenses related to COVID-19 disruptions. HSC Fort Worth was allocated approximately $343,000 for emergency financial aid grants to HSC students. Eligible expenses include food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and child care.

In order to qualify for aid, students must meet both of the following qualifications:
• Enrolled in the current term
• Eligible to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Students can apply for grants via an online form: https://cm.maxient.com/reportingform.php?UnivofNorthTexasHSC&layout_id=7

Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis as long as funds remain available. If a student is not eligible for CARES Act funding, their application will automatically be reviewed under the Student Assistance Fund criteria.

Once an application is submitted, students will receive communication from a team member in the HSC Office of Care and Civility. Funds will be distributed directly to the student by the institution.

I know the COVID-19 pandemic has caused hardships for many. I encourage students in need to take advantage of this opportunity for financial support, and if you know students struggling financially because of COVID-19, please encourage them to apply.

By looking out for each other, we will get through this. Thank you for all you do.

With appreciation,
Mike
