Purpose/Research Objectives
The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to promote research to rapidly move promising technologies through the product development pipeline towards the development of new diagnostics for syphilis. Translational diagnostic development research which includes the collection and use of clinical samples is allowed, however clinical trials are not allowed. Applications concerning congenital syphilis would be of highest programmatic priority but efforts on adult acquired syphilis diagnosis are eligible.
Specific Areas of Research Interest
Areas of interest for diagnostic product development include but are not limited to the following:

- nucleic acid amplification tests (NAAT)
- antibody and/or antigen detection tests
- metabolomics
- transcriptomics
- and genomics testing platforms
- innovative detection technologies and platforms
