Bio: Emily Mire is the Director for Wellness Services for the university, serving as the chair of the Care Team and overseeing the Office of Wellness Services. She considers it a privilege to walk through life circumstances with members of the UNTHSC campus community and works to help each student define what wellness means to them. Emily graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a BS in Kinesiology and Health Promotion and a BS in Biology. She has a Masters in Public Health from UNT Health Science Center and a MEd in Counseling and Student Affairs from Texas Christian University. Emily completed her PhD in Health Studies with a concentration in Higher Education from Texas Woman’s University. She also has an active Certified Health Education Specialist certificate through NCHEC. Emily spends her free time exploring Fort Worth with her husband and toddler and cheering on the TCU Horned Frogs.

Chris Klein

Bio: Chris joined the Office of Wellness Services in September of 2017. Chris serves as the Co-Chair to the Care Team. He spent 11 years with the Dallas Police Department, serving in multiple response roles including crisis intervention and training at the Dallas Police Academy. As Chris looked to transition out of policing, he wanted to be able to walk with people experiencing crisis outside of the limited nature of the role of police in crisis response. In his 11 years in Dallas, he witnessed the impact of mental health crisis and learned the importance of overall wellness being a priority in all of our lives to be as successful as possible. Chris has his Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at Liberty University and is also a CrossFit trainer. Chris is currently working on his Master’s Degree in Human Behavior. In his free time, he enjoys his time with his wife, three daughters and is a strength coach for athletes in the northern DFW area.

Jeremy Joseph, MS

Bio: Jeremy joined the Office of Wellness Services in February of 2018. He serves as a key member to the Wellness Services team to ensure that recreation programs and the fitness center runs safely, and excellent customer service is provided to all members. Jeremy enthusiastically aspires to promote, encourage and engage faculty, staff, and students to take an active role in their health. The intention is to improve overall quality of life by providing exceptional opportunities and experiences at the fitness center. Jeremy graduated from University of Texas at Arlington with a BS in Kinesiology, and received his Master of Science in Exercise Science from Northeastern University. Jeremy has experience working as a health coach empowering individuals to make a transformative change to a healthy lifestyle. In his free time, Jeremy enjoys playing basketball, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Alex Fernandez, MS, MPH

Bio: Alex joined the Office of Wellness Services in August of 2018. He has a passion for health and an innate drive to serve others. As a wellness team member, Alex assists in the promotion, implementation, and assessment of UNTHSC wellness programs for students and staff members. He has earned BS and MS in Kinesiology from University of North Texas, Denton, and an MPH in Health Management and Policy from the UNT Health Science Center. Alex strongly believes that health is a journey, not a destination, and little everyday habits go a long way in the grand scheme of things. Alex’s goal is to add value and lasting positive change to the lives of students and staff members through wellness programs. In his free time, Alex enjoys spending time with his wife and son, training, and learning new things.
