The start of classes each summer fuels me with renewed energy for our vision of One University, built on values, defining and producing the providers of the future.
That’s when our schools and colleges welcome new and returning students who chose UNTHSC to transform them into innovative and collaborative health care professionals who make a difference in people’s lives.
Soon we will welcome the inaugural class of our sixth school, the TCU and UNTHSC School of Medicine. Students arrive on campus July 8.
This is a proud moment for us. We are the only Health Science Center in Texas that has these six schools — DO and MD programs, health professions, public health, biomedical sciences and pharmacy — centralized on one campus.
Future providers train side-by-side, across disciplines and specialties. This is Extraordinary Teamwork at its essence. UNTHSC graduates will enter the workforce prepared to work in high-performing health care teams and change patients’ lives.
We started this journey with TCU in 2015, with a handshake and a passion to help solve the growing physician shortage in Texas. This strong partnership with TCU has added value to many of our other programs as well.
Along the way we achieved milestones. We built the state-of-the-art IREB, benefited from a change to state law that allowed us to award an MD degree and joined our health care partners to create hundreds of new residency positions in North Texas.
Our campus is already home to one of the best colleges of medicine in the nation. TCOM produces more primary care physicians than any Texas medical program and ranks in the top 10 nationally for primary care.
With the arrival of our School of Medicine students, we will teach, train and graduate more skilled, emotionally intelligent doctors than ever before. More doctors mean more Texans receiving the health care they need.
We have transformed UNTHSC into one of the most futuristic and comprehensive health care education institutions in the nation. Together, we are producing the health care providers of the future that our community deserves.
Join me in welcoming these new members of the UNTHSC family.
