NMM/OMM Residents Roselle Liganor, DO and Jake Watters, DO received first place in their original Resident Research on their poster “The Effects of OMT on GI Motility” at the American Academy of Osteopathy Convocation in Louisville, KY. Their research team included Kendi Hensel, DO, PhD, Michael Smith, PhD, and Noah Jouett, OMS4.

OMM Welcomes Man with a Vision


On June 1, 2014 the department was pleased to welcome Sajid Surve, DO, Associate Professor to the OMM team. Dr. Surve is a 2005 graduate of the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (formerly known as UMDNJ-SOM).  After completing a Traditional Rotating Internship with Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, PA, Dr. Surve moved to New York to study Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Long Beach Medical Center (now Mercy Medical Center).  Upon completion of residency he returned to New Jersey to complete a Plus One Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine fellowship at RowanSOM, where he then joined the faculty.  Dr. Surve left RowanSOM to join the UNTHSC team in 2014.

Dr. Surve is currently board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, neuromusculoskeletal medicine, and pain medicine. Dr. Surve also received Medical Acupuncture certification through the Helms Medical Institute via the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. Throughout his career, Dr. Surve has distinguished himself as an educator and leader. He has given lectures at the local, regional, and national levels on various topics including osteopathic manipulation, medical acupuncture, complementary and alternative therapies, responsible opioid prescribing, and performing arts medicine.

Dr. Surve has a vision for developing a Center of Excellence in Performing Arts Medicine with two primary missions:  1) To support performing artists’ medical needs and help them find health in their pursuit of excellence in their fields; and 2) To utilize performing arts as a therapeutic modality in the rehabilitation of medical patients with traumatic brain injury, CVA, PTSD, pain syndromes and other maladies.
