Malawi International Medicine Elective

John Podgore, DO, MPH, Professor TCOM Department of Pediatrics established a clinical elective site in Lilongwe Malawi which offers 4 – 6 week annual student clinical rotations January through March.

The rotations are located in the capital of the east African country of Malawi and are linked to two general hospitals, a community health clinic, and several rural outreach clinic stations. Dr. Podgore or a designated U.S. licensed physician/TCOM faculty member will be present at the elective site to act as mentor for students and residents on this rotation.

The international clinic rotation was developed to provide UNTHSC students and other medical trainees with an opportunity to experience health problems and issues that transcend national borders and to gain first-hand knowledge of the emerging importance of global health in medical education and practice.
