Q What did you like best about TCOM?

My friends and classmates. I had always been told that people at TCOM were nice, but everyone I met completely exceeded my expectations. My classmates were very supportive of one another and approached our class work with a team attitude. People were always sharing notes and resources. If I ever needed help, I knew I could reach out to my friends and they would be there. I also respect and appreciate their passion and motivation to succeed in medicine. Spending four years with my friends and classmates has made me a better person and a smarter, more confident physician.

Q What did you learn at TCOM that will influence the way you will practice medicine?

I learned to listen to my patients. Each patient I meet has their own unique past. If you take the time to listen to them and hear their story, they will enrich your life in ways you could never imagine. Your patients are your best teachers. When I had patients who were receiving bad news or dealing with something particularly difficult, I always thanked them for allowing me to participate in their care and for being the best teacher I had that day. More often than not, that would make them smile because they knew they were appreciated.

Q Do you have any advice for future TCOM students:

Enjoy medical school. It is the most difficult, stressful, and intense experience of your life that is completely enjoyable if you take the time for a little fun. You have to remember your priorities with study and school commitments, but allow yourself some time to have a little fun. When you give yourself time to relax, you will come back to your studies smarter and more open to learning.
