Aliza (Liz) A. Aliza is an avid reader who loves to drink boba tea and cook international foods in her (limited) spare time. She received her Bachelors in Biological Sciences and World Religions from Ohio University in 2018. She has loved libraries her entire life and was fortunate enough to work in her University library all four years and then work for the Dallas Public Library System for 2 years after graduation. While in Medsci, if she wasn't in Anatomy lab, you could find her on the 3rd floor of the Gibson Library. She loves to collect fancy watches, not so fancy stickers. After Medsci, Aliza is excited to spend her time trying to gain even more clinical experience, volunteer at BBBG and her local animal shelters, and attend 4 weddings because all her friends are getting married! Strong mentorship is the foundation for finding success in the field of healthcare, and she hopes he can be a good mentor for the incoming Medsci class. Audrey P. Audrey graduated from Texas A&M University in 2019 with her bachelor's degree in biology and wants to go to dental school after finishing Med-Sci! Audrey is the current secretary for the Pre-Dental Honor Society at HSC, so she's ready for all your questions about the DAT, applications, and head and neck anatomy! After class on Friday mornings, she can be found volunteering as a Registered Dental Assistant in a local free dental clinic. As a Fort Worth native, Audrey loves welcoming new neighbors to town and knows all the good spots to eat, dance, and take cute photos! When she’s not studying at home with her cats, Audrey loves playing board games with her friends from church or going out two stepping in the stockyards!
Gabby L. Gabby is a former Horned Frog turned Med Sci student from Amarillo, Texas who is passionate about becoming a physician in the future. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Texas Christian University and her Master of Science in Medical Science from The University of North Texas Health Science Center. While studying at Texas Christian University, Gabby was involved in her community as a research assistant in a biology laboratory, a facilitator in a women's leadership program, a student mentor to fellow pre-health students, and as a tutor for local middle and high school students. At The University of North Texas Health Science Center, Gabby enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate with new professors and students, develop effective study strategies, broaden her biomedical science knowledge base, and create lasting friendships with her classmates. In her free time, she enjoys baking, cycling, and spending time with family and friends. Gabby is excited to be a resource and mentor for incoming Med Sci students while serving as an Orientation Leader.
Haesol H. Haesol received her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Arlington in 2018. Before coming to the University of North Texas Health Science Center to complete her Med-Sci degree, she worked in a research lab that focused on improving pancreatic tumors in mice. She hopes to inspire the new Med-Sci class by encouraging all the new students to strive for the best.
Holly J. Holly received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. She is also completing her Master of Science in Medical Science at The University of Texas Health Science Center. In addition to the rigorous curriculum at the HSC, Holly enjoys playing Disc Golf in the summer and going hunting in the winter, along with camping and fishing with her family throughout the year. She also has a lifelong goal of running and completing a marathon. Holly is very excited to help get new MedSci students engaged and ready for an exciting year as MedSci students.
Katalina A. Katalina is from San Antonio, Texas, and graduated from Barnard College in New York City with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and minor in Art History in 2017. While at Barnard, she discovered her love of education through her work with Peer Health Exchange, a nonprofit organization that trains college student volunteers to teach a skills-based health curriculum in underserved public high schools lacking comprehensive health education. Katalina conducted her thesis research in the neuroscience department, examining the neural underpinnings of emotional memory and fear acquisition. Before attending UNTHSC, she taught high school biology and chemistry in the Bronx for the New York City Department of Education while working towards a Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in Special Education. During her time in Med Sci, Katalina served as a Curriculum Representative. In her free time, Katalina volunteers for FWISD Reading Partners and Methodist Hospital’s Covid-19 vaccine call center. She is passionate about spicy food, Shiba Inu puppies, and her Goodreads “Want to Read” list. As an orientation leader, she is thrilled to welcome the next Med Sci cohort and support them throughout their academic journey here at UNTHSC.
Ko-Lin W. Ko-Lin graduated from Texas A&M University in 2020, majoring in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Public Health. Born in Taiwan, she came to the U.S. when she was 9. During undergrad, Ko-Lin worked as a student assistant in the library, a teaching assistant, as well as a public health student researcher in the Health Promotion and Genomics Lab. In her free time, she enjoys playing volleyball with her fellow Med Sci peers and watching kpop and true crime videos on Youtube. Fun fact: she prefers eating popcorn stale.
Milo H. Milo received their Bachelors of Arts in Biology from the University of North Texas in fall of 2018, and their Masters of Science in Healthcare Administration in summer of 2020. Before joining UNTHSC, Milo was a newborn hearing screener, and they currently work as a contact tracer for Tarrant County Public Health. Milo enjoys working with new students, and believes in creating an open and honest environment where students can share anxieties and receive encouragement from peers and mentors alike.
Prathyusha M. Prathyusha pursued a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience at The University of Texas at Dallas and a Master of Science in Medical Science through UNTHSC. She will be joining TCOM’s Class of 2025 and looks forward to more years of excitement, friendship, and growth at UNTHSC. Prathyusha has prior experience as a Medical Scribe and Site Coordinator. She is currently focused on her passion for community and peer engagement and is involved in various service projects across DFW. In her free time, Prathyusha enjoys exploring Fort Worth, trying new cuisines, and spending quality time with her friends, family, and dog. She is eager to support the incoming MedSci students on their unique journeys into healthcare and encourages students to reach out with any questions.
Tooba H. Tooba received her Bachelor of Science in Biology degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. She has completed the requirements for a Masters in Medical Sciences and has chosen to extend her degree through the traditional research track while she applies to medical schools this year. Prior to attending The University of North Texas Health Science Center, Tooba worked with many programs at UTD such as the Freshman Mentor Program and the Student Success Center to offer peer support and mentorship to the best of her abilities. Tooba’s experience of being the president of the Golden Key International Honor Society chapter at UTD and a peer tutor allowed her to not only enhance her leadership qualities but also work within a team to come up with the best solutions! Furthermore, Tooba has worked as a medical scribe in the emergency department where she was able to work with exceptional physicians! Tooba is eager to help incoming students adapt to the UNTHSC environment with ease and confidence! She aims to be a true support system for peers to help them conquer all challenges they may face!
Alex F. Alex is a TCOM student who currently serves as the Class President for TCOM 2024 and as the 1st Vice President for the Medical Student Government Association (MSGA).Alex received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2018 from the University of Texas at Austin. He worked as a Certified Dermatology Tech for a Mohs Surgeon in Austin before pursuing his Master's in Medical Science degree at UNTHSC, graduating in 2020.As an Eagle Scout, Alex uses his leadership experience to help lead his class through this challenging and uncertain time. As a prior Orientation Leader for the Medical Science class of 2020-2021, he is extraordinarily excited to meet and welcome the new TCOM class of 2025. Outside of being way too involved, Alex enjoys basketball, rock climbing, brewing beer, and watching anime with his dog, Jiro. Alex is friendly and outgoing and can talk your ear off - no offense taken if you tell him to stop.Additionally, he wants to congratulate everyone on gaining acceptance to TCOM. He invites everyone to take a breath and exhale any imposter syndrome you may be feeling. Born in Vietnam, Ashley Steele is a current student and the class Vice President of the TCOM class of 2024. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in French from Baylor University in 2016 and her Master of Medical Science with distinction in the Anatomy Research track from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in 2020. She previously worked at Baylor Scott & White Health as a full-time kidney and heart transplant HLA lab technologist before starting the MedSci program at UNTHSC in 2018. Ashley is also a yoga instructor for the UNTHSC fitness center, and she received her 200-hour RYT training in 2016. She is an avid rock-climber (shout out to Elizabeth Thai for her expertise!) and loves lifting, hiking, camping, and enjoying the sunshine. She married her husband in 2016, and together they have 2 dogs and 3 cats. In addition to being a native Vietnamese and English speaker, Ashley is also fluent in French and is working on mastering Spanish. Her fun fact is that she picked out her first name, “Ashley,” in the 1st grade! Ashley is passionate about building human connections and being a source of support and guidance for other immigrants and first-gen students. She wants to give to others what others have given to her: an open heart, an open mind, and a better tomorrow.
Ashlyn F. Ashlyn graduated from The Amazing Texas A&M University with a degree in Biomedical Science. Outside of TCOM, she enjoys working with kiddos, pursuing medical missions, and exploring the best dessert places DFW has to offer (always open to suggestions). On a normal day, you can catch her at the library, restraining herself from adopting my foster pet, or trying a new coffee place. Choosing TCOM has been a wonderful experience, and Ashlyn wants to help you feel the same!
Ashlyn K. Welcome to UNTHSC, Class of 2025! My name is Ashlyn Kinard and I am an OMS-2. I graduated from Texas A&M University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences. During college, I worked closely with the orientation program at Texas A&M. After graduating college, I spent a year in Memphis, Tennessee as a 9th and 10th grade geometry teacher. Over the years, I have learned the role confidence plays in our success as students and individuals. I am excited to be working alongside you all and hope to be a resource in helping you find your place here at UNTHSC.
Callie F. Callie is from Grapevine, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University in 2018 (whoop!) with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a minor in Business. She then worked as a scribe in the emergency department at Children's Medical Center in Dallas for a year before completing a Master’s in Medical Science on the UNTHSC campus in 2020. She is now in her first year at TCOM in the dual degree MPH program. She is involved in the Medical Student Government Association (MSGA) with the Homeless Outreach through Medical Education (HOME) clinic as well as several other organizations and interest groups. Callie is passionate about community service and outreach. She hopes to be able to share her experiences, provide encouragement, and help students fight fear and anxiety with knowledge. She is so excited to welcome y'all to TCOM and looks forward to meeting everyone!
Christine L. Christine Le received her Bachelor of Science in Biology in her hometown at the University of Texas at Arlington. At UTA, Christine worked with the Office of University Recruitment, fostering her interest in helping new students transition into the unknown adventure that is higher education. In 2019, Christine graduated with her Master of Science of Medical Sciences at the UNT Health Science Center. After falling in love with the hospitable and uplifting community at UNTHSC, Christine decided to continue her medical career at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. With her experience in teaching, research, and leadership, she hopes to impart some helpful advice and wisdom to her new future peers! When she’s not studying for the next exam, you might catch Christine drawing stickers for her friends or baking her stress away!
Elizabeth T. Elizabeth Thai was born and raised in Austin, Texas by her immigrant parents—refugees of the Vietnam war. Her childhood largely subsisted on PBS television and playing with dirt outside. While much of her life was spent helping her parents take care of her younger sibling, in collage she finally had the freedom to discover herself and became an avid outdoors woman. When not studying, she spends her free time fishing or rock climbing. Elizabeth is passionate about cultivating positivity and encouraging peers to stay true to themselves. Her journey to medical school was far from traditional. She received her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Texas at Austin and worked as a dermatologic medical assistant for 3 years before returning to school. She received her Master of Science in Biomedical Science with distinction from the University of North Texas Health Science Center. She is now a proud first year at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. As an orientation leader, she hopes to connect with TCOM 2025, to help them strive for a well-balanced life, and to seek help whenever it is needed.
Erin D. Erin is an OMS-I, and she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Neuroscience from Texas A&M University in 2018. Prior to matriculation at TCOM, she worked as an emergency department scribe where she learned that human connection is key to providing effective healthcare. In her spare time, Erin enjoys spending time with friends and family, exploring local art, and volunteering. She currently serves the Fort Worth community with ACH Child and Family Services and Refugee Health Initiative.
Ryan W. Ryan received his Bachelor of Science from Utah State University. He is currently a 1st year medical student at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. Prior to his completion of his bachelor’s, he lived in Central Germany as a service missionary and also played collegiate basketball at Southern Virginia University. His experiences in Germany along with the leadership skills he is building as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force make him excited to be a part of the Orientation Team. Fun Fact about me: I have a son who keeps me busy.
Aleesia I. Aleesia received her Bachelor of Science in Merchandising from the University of North Texas and her Master of Education from Union University in Tennessee. Prior to her arrival at The University of North Texas Health Science Center, Aleesia worked as an elementary school teacher for five years. Her experience in education helped her develop a passion to work with children and develop their unique skills. Aleesia is also an avid runner which gave her a newfound interest in the human body which lead her to a career in Physical Therapy. Aleesia is passionate about helping others and knows how it feels when starting a new chapter in life. She wants incoming students to feel understood and connected here at UNTHSC. She hopes to be an encouragement and supportive resource to assist students in reaching their goals.
Alison L. Alison is a 1st year PA student who loves UNTHSC so much that she came back for a second degree! She earned a BA in Psychology at Texas Tech, then went on to get a MS in Biomedical Sciences from UNTHSC. During this program, she quickly realized that she wanted to work with patients instead of in research. On the quest to gain clinical experience, she met her husband Bryan while working in the ER. To de-stress from school, she enjoys any kind of outdoor activities, except those involving water. She is very excited to encourage the incoming class on this journey!
Ashley B. Ashley graduated from Austin College in 2019 with her Bachelor of Arts in Biology. During her time at Austin College, she volunteered in her community with Meals-On-Wheels, and also worked at the local hospital as a patient care technician. Prior to coming to UNTHSC, she spent her time teaching piano lessons and performing with the Sherman Symphony Orchestra playing the cello. Currently, she enjoys cooking, painting, going for walks with other PA students, and spending time with her husband, Kaleb, and their cat, Koko. Ashley looks forward to being a mentor in assisting students in their transition to PA school and during their journey thereafter.
Catherine M. Catherine received her Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin in 2019 (hook ‘em!). Prior to starting PA school at UNTHSC, she worked as a medical assistant at an ENT clinic in Austin. When she’s not watching lectures at Crude Coffee Bar (the best latte in FTW!), she enjoys cooking, jogging on the trinity trail, and catching up with friends. Catherine serves as Student Advocate for the Class of 2023 and is passionate about inclusion, student leadership, and the PA profession. She is excited for her new role as an Orientation Leader and the opportunity to welcome the PA Class of 2024!
Jana B. Jana received her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences and Certificate of Cultural Competency in Spanish from Texas A&M University in 2019. Prior to starting PA school at UNTHSC, Jana worked as a nursing assistant at the Texas A&M health clinic. She completed a Global Health study abroad in Barcelona, Spain and was inspired to pursue the dual degree PA/MPH. Jana loves to form new relationships and be involved with everything on campus. She looks forward to meeting incoming students and serving as a resource of information and friendship for them.
Jessie M. Jessie grew up in Austin, TX and is a proud graduate of Texas A&M University. There she received a BS in Biomedical Sciences. Upon graduation, she spent a few years working in dermatology before starting PA school. Jessie has lived in Fort Worth for the past 2 years with her husband and 5 month old goldendoodle pup, Harvey. Outside of school she enjoys time with friends and family and is always down for a game of beach volleyball or a Chuy’s happy hour. Jessie loves Fort Worth and can’t wait to share this city with all of you!!
Kate Q. Kate received her Bachelor of Science in Human Sciences from Texas Tech University in 2019. She is a Fort Worth native who boasts about learning to two-step at Billy Bob’s Texas and taking field trips to the Kimbell Art Museum or Casa Mañana while growing up. Kate chose UNTHSC to continue giving back to her community, and considers it a blessing to attend school in the place she calls home. In addition to being a Physician Assistant Student, Kate is the Class Activities Chair, a member of the Latino Medical Student Association, a member of the Physician Assistant Student Association, and the PA representative for the UNTHSC Sustainability Committee. She is super excited to welcome the Class of 2024!
Kiley P. Kiley received her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with minors in Gerontology and Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to attending UNTHSC, Kiley worked as a CNA/Medication aide on a long-term care unit, CNA on a children's hematology/oncology unit, teaching assistant and eventually Head TA for her University's genetics, molecular, and cellular biology laboratory course. When she's not studying, Kiley likes to spend her time with her husband Ethan (who is also a UNTHSC PA student), 2 dogs, and bunny. Kiley is originally from Omaha, Nebraska and is excited to use her experiences as an out-of-state student to help new students that are also from another state. Kiley is passionate about helping new students in any way she can and is looking forward to meeting the incoming PA class and assisting in their transition to PA school.
Pablo P. Pablo is originally from Moore, Oklahoma, and he received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Oklahoma (boomer!). Prior to starting at UNTHSC last year, Pablo worked as a medical scribe at OU Children’s in OKC, where he developed a deep love for pediatrics. He is the current Honor Code Representative for the PA class of 2023, a position he is very passionate about. Before starting PA school in Fort Worth, Pablo had never lived in Texas, but he has come to love it here. When not busy studying or doing schoolwork, you can always catch him watching sports or planning road trips with his wife and dog. Pablo is excited to share all the wonderful opportunities UNTHSC has to offer to the upcoming PA class.
Rachel B. Rachel grew up in Dallas, TX and attended Texas A&M University for her undergraduate in Applied Exercise Physiology. She is a member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 2018, whoop! Rachel volunteered within the nuclear medicine cardiology field at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in College Station, TX where she experienced her first official role within patient care. After graduation, she spent two years working as a medical assistant/scribe for an orthopedic surgeon in Plano, Texas. On the side, Rachel loves weightlifting every morning at 4am and loves to train and motivate others in their physical fitness. She also loves traveling, spending time with her husband, Will, and their dog Winnie. Rachel is excited to be an orientation leader for the Class of 2024 and hopes to make the transition into their next chapter an exciting one!
Vanessa P. Vanessa Piper received her Bachelor of Business Administration and minor in Biology from the University of Houston in 2017. She played college soccer (all 4 years) for the University of Houston Women’s soccer team and has competed throughout the US, as well as internationally. Prior to her arrival at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, Vanessa worked as both an Emergency Room and ENT medical scribe. She is currently in year 1 of the PA program and holds several membership and leadership roles. She is a PASA officer as the Texas Academy of Physician Assistant Junior Representative. She is part of the UNTHSC Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Faculty Taskforce, is an active member of PA Clinical Organization and Latino Medical Student Association. Vanessa is passionate about welcoming conversation and understanding the beauty of student engagement outside of academic life. She hopes to inspire all to be open-minded, to learn and appreciate different backgrounds, cultures and walks of life! Fun fact: she has dual US-Mexican citizenship and has previously trained in a U17 Mexican National Soccer Team Camp! She enjoys going to church with her husband, Logan, and being involved with church volunteerism.
Dylan M. A Rio Grande Valley native, Dylan received his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Texas at Dallas. Before matriculating into UNT System College of Pharmacy, Dylan has worked as a pharmacy technician since 2017. Dylan is passionate about helping fellow students make a smooth transition into the program and start their pharmacy career strong . He hopes to be source of support and guidance on academic success and extracurricular involvement.
Haley B. Haley is a proud Mean Green UNT System alumna who earned her Bachelor of Science in Materials Science & Engineering from UNT Denton and her Masters in Biomedical Sciences from the UNT Health Science Center. As a member of the HSC College of Pharmacy Class of 2024, Haley intends to pursue board-certification as a critical care clinical pharmacist after graduation with hopes to advise on translational research for drug delivery systems. During her P1 year, Haley has greatly enjoyed involvement in the Pharmacy Student Government Association (PSGA), HSC Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SSHP), HSC APhA Academy of Student Pharmacist (APhA-ASP), Phi Delta Chi (PDC) Pharmacy Fraternity, and recruitment events through HSCCP Admissions. She is an avid follower of #TwitteRx and a lover of all things positivity, potatoes, and pharmacy!
Lauren R. Lauren graduated from the University of North Texas where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology with a Chemistry minor and a certificate in Leadership Studies. Currently, she is enrolled in the pharmacy program here at HSC. She is involved in the Pharmacy Student Government Association as the Class of 2024 Activity Chair and the P1 Liaison for the Black Professional Pharmacy Association. Outside of school, Lauren loves to dance with her hip hop team in the Dallas area, spend time with her family and friends, listen to music and watch her favorite shows. She has always been passionate about mentorship, leadership, and using her experiences to help other people . She looks forward to joining this amazing team of Orientation Leaders, meeting future new students and being a resource for their success.
Nia H. Nia was born in Brooklyn, NY but was raised in Dallas since pretty much her entire life. She is currently in her P1 year of pharmacy school at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. She received my Bachelor of Science and Arts in Nutrition from The University of Texas at Austin. Nia enjoy painting (acrylic paint only though), shopping, and watching TV shows in my free time.
Payton S. Payton is originally from Montgomery, Texas and is an incoming P3 student at the HSC College of Pharmacy. Prior to pharmacy school Payton attended The University of Louisiana at Monroe where she was a member of the Division 1 Track & Field team and received her bachelor's degree in Toxicology. In her free time Payton enjoys running, working out and spending time with family and friends. After graduation Payton hopes to pursue a PGY1 residency and specialize in infectious disease or emergency medicine.
Shannyn G. Shannyn was born here in the USA, but has Irish citizenship also. She graduated (via Zoom) from the University of North Texas in Denton in May 2020 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Chemistry, and minors in Biology and Anthropology. Shannyn is a certified pharmacy technician/intern pharmacist at CVS Pharmacy, where she has worked for the past 5 years. Her dream job is to work at a Children’s hospital and specialize in oncology pharmacy. Shannyn likes to travel, and also enjoy music, reading, sports, and photography.Her friends would describe her as a good listener, easy going and a Disney nerd. Yes, she love anything Disney!
Terry D. Terry graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. During her undergraduate studies, she was a first-year leader and a freshmen mentor. So welcoming new students and making sure an easy transition is something she is familiar at. She is currently a pharmacy student going into her third year and is excited to meet all of the incoming students. Terry enjoys learning about different cultures and making a positive impact. In her spare time, she likes to discover eateries, working out, and go hiking.
Tiara G. Tiara played volleyball and received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Dallas Baptist University. Through mentorship to others and service in her community she was inspired to go into the healthcare field. She is currently a dual enrolled student in her 3rd year of Pharmacy and a Public Health student in the master’s program. She is interested in pursuing a career in health disparities. Tiara is excited to join the Team of Orientation Leaders to serve new students by helping them get acclimated to HSC's culture of collaboration. She loves spending time with her husband and their twin daughters, cycling, and watching Law and Order: SVU.
Traci P. A little bit about Traci. She received her Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science from the University of North Texas before being accepted into pharmacy school. She is now a proud member of the Class of 2024 UNTHSC College of Pharmacy! When away from school, she keeps busy spending time with her husband and three kids. Her desire to help others achieve their dreams lead her to become an Orientation Leader. She enjoys watching and leading others to achieve their full potential. She can’t wait to get to know the incoming class of students and help them learn the joy that comes with being a part of UNTHSC!
Laura K. Laura obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and a Minor in Mathematics from Southern Methodist University. She is currently pursuing her Master of Public Health, with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health. She previously worked in clinical research as an auditor, overseeing phase II and III pharmaceutically sponsored trials to ensure patient safety and protocol compliance. She subsequently went on to open three clinical research sites out of surgical hospitals where she directed study start up of phase I-IV post operative pain studies in orthopedic, general, bariatric, gynecological, plastic, and podiatric surgeries. She additionally works in rape crisis providing advocacy services to survivors over the phone and during sexual assault exams in the emergency department. Her work in rape crisis and research drove her current passion for public health. Laura enjoys mentorship and supporting her peers, which is why she is very excited to welcome incoming students during orientation. She hopes to be a positive resource to everyone she meets to help ensure a seamless transition at UNTHSC.
Mana P. Mana is a first-year MHA student in the School of Public Health. She is an international student and a foreign trained dentist. Mana is also a member of the International Student Association, Public Health Student Government Association, and Healthcare Administration Student Association. She recently moved to Fort Worth and in her free time, she really like to explore her neighborhood—she have explored some really fun places! Mana has loved my time at HSC, and she hopes that it is the same for all incoming students. Zhengqi T. Zhengqi is a fourth-year Ph.D. student in public health with a concentration in epidemiology. Before landing in UNTHSC, he worked in Madera County Public Health Department in California as an epidemiologist. A fun fact about that is Madera County had never had an epidemiologist before so I had the honor being the first ever. Zhengqi received his MPH from the State University of New York at Buffalo and my MBBS in preventive medicine from Fudan University. His research interest is in the areas of quantitative and computational epidemiology and prevention, clinical trials methodology, and alcohol intervention. He is excited to have the opportunity to welcome the new blood of our student body and hope my student work as well as academic program experience in school of public health can help my peer students to have a smooth onboarding and a strong start in their new program.
Gretchen J. Hailing from Kansas, Gretchen is a passionate advocate for health equity who joined the HSC community in 2018 to pursue her Master of Science in forensic genetics. After experiencing tremendous personal growth, she found her vocation in neurobiology research in the North Texas Eye Research Institute and intends to go into research in an industry setting. In her free time, Gretchen enjoys hiking, painting, plant-based cooking, and video gaming. She is ecstatic to welcome new members of the HSC community and help them find their niche as she did!
Shaima Q. Alshaima’a (Shaima) is a Ph.D. candidate in Biomedical Sciences at UNTHSC. She joined Emmitte’s research group as a graduate student researcher in the Pharmaceutical Sciences department at UNT System College of Pharmacy. Her doctoral dissertation aims to discover novel mouse-specific in vivo tool compounds that function as selective inhibitors for Slack channels, to help validate Slack inhibition as a viable therapy for malignant migrating partial seizure of infancy (MMPSI). Prior to joining UNTHSC, she worked as a research and teaching assistant at the German Jordanian University. Shaima holds a Pharm.D. degree from the University of Jordan.
