Dr. Jose Pagan, Chair of the Department of Health Management & Policy in the School of Public Health, is leading a new $7.3 million Health Care Innovations Award funded through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
The project is a partnership between UNTHSC and Brookdale Senior Living, the largest senior living community operator in the country, to expand and test the Interventions to Reduce Acute Care Transfers (INTERACT) assessment tools for residents of assisted living and dementia care facilities.
This program is expected to reduce hospital re-admissions by 11.2 percent and potentially save Medicare $9.3 million over three years.
