SPH professor named to select scholars program

UNT Health Science Center (UNTHSC) Assistant Professor Brad Cannell, PhD, MPH, has been selected as one of 50 participants for this year’s National Institute on Aging (NIA) Butler-Williams Scholars Program for emerging researchers, to be held in Bethesda, Maryland, August 4-8.

The highly competitive program – formerly called the Summer Institute on Aging Research – includes lectures, seminars and small group discussions in research design relative to aging, including issues relevant to aging of ethnic and racial minorities.

Lectures will cover topics in research on aging, including the biology of aging; genetics and Alzheimer’s disease; and health, behavior and aging. Discussion sessions will focus on methodological approaches and interventions.

The program also will include consultation on the development of research interests and advice on preparing and submitting research grant applications to NIA.

The program is sponsored by NIA with support from the National Hartford Centers of Gerontological Nursing Excellence.

Dr. Cannell teaches in the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology for the UNTHSC School of Public Health.
