Public health professor awarded Fulbright Scholarship to Saudi Arabia

Susie Ramisetty-Mikler, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at UNT Health Science Center School of Public Health, has been awarded a Fulbright Teaching-Research Scholarship (2014-15) to spend 10 months at Alfaisal University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Ramisetty-Mikler will be teaching a graduate health research/data analysis course in the Department of Family & Community Medicine and will conduct her proposed research on preconception, prenatal health behavior and health literacy among Saudi women. She will also undertake Fulbright assignments, such as conducting seminars for advanced students/faculty, advising students on research and speaking to Saudi healthcare professionals on selected topics.
More than 150 countries currently participate in the Fulbright program, directed by the U.S. Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. For more than 60 years, Fulbright scholars have helped to develop international understanding, communication and long-term cooperative relationships among countries around the world, working in education, politics, economics and social/cultural areas.
As a U.S. representative in Saudi Arabia, Dr. Ramisetty-Mikler will help fulfill the principal purpose of the Fulbright Program, to increase mutual understanding between people of the United States and the host country.
