Laurie Bailey, PhD
Dr. Laurie Bailey, Ph.D., is the newly appointed Head of the Pediatric Research Training Program at Cook Children’s Health Care System, where she is dedicated to developing academic partnerships and mentoring the next generation of medical researchers. With over two decades of experience at Cook Children’s, Dr. Bailey has played a pivotal role in shaping the system’s research landscape, contributing to groundbreaking research in pediatric health.
Dr. Bailey’s career at Cook Children’s began in 2002, where she worked in the Life After Cancer Program in the Hematology & Oncology Center. There, she focused on research related to the quality of life and cognitive outcomes of cancer therapy in pediatric cancer survivors for eight years. She then transitioned to the Research Department, where she worked alongside neurologists and neurosurgeons in the Jane and John Justin Neurosciences Center. Her research in epilepsy, movement disorders, and neurosurgery further deepened Cook Children’s research expertise.
In 2019, Dr. Bailey accepted the role of Director of the Research Data Science & Analytics division, which she helped establish to accelerate data-driven research, foster collaboration, and train future leaders in pediatric research. Under her leadership, the division successfully connected data science experts with investigators across multiple disciplines, supporting investigator-initiated research and driving innovation in pediatric care.
As the new head of the Pediatric Research Training Program, Dr. Bailey is focused on nurturing the next generation of researchers and fostering continued growth and success in pediatric health research at Cook Children’s.
Dr. Bailey earned her Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX, and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in counseling psychology from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX.
