CPRIT High-Impact/High-Risk Research Awards FY2017 Request for Applications

The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT), tasked to foster cancer research in Texas by providing financial support for a wide variety of projects relevant to cancer research,  is requesting applications for its High-Impact/High-Risk Research Awards. This is a limited submission RFA and as such, the UNTHSC will be allowed 5 submissions by the January 17, 2017 deadline.

Letters of Intent due October 28 at 5pm CDT.

If you are interested in submitting an application to this RFA, please submit the information requested (# 1-6) below to Researchfunding@unthsc.edu with copies to your Dean/Director by October 28, 2016 at 5pm CDT.  The subject line of the email should include “CPRIT High-Impact/High-Risk Research Award application LOI”.

In the event that more than five UNTHSC investigators plan to submit to CPRIT, an internal review process will be necessary to make the final five selections. In this case, you will be notified by October 31st, 2016 of the need to prepare a pre-proposal for internal review.

 

Pre-Proposal Submission guidelines and Review by Limited Submission Committee

The pre-proposal should include one cover page and the project outline should be no more than three pages in length in 11-point font with 0.5 inch margins and must contain the following information:

Cover Page (one page):

  • Proposal title
  • Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator(s), Department /College/Institute, Other Key Personnel
  • Proposed start date and duration of the project
  • Estimated (total) budget for the entire performance period. Note: Applicants may request a total of $200,000 for a period of up to 24 months (2 years), inclusive of both direct and indirect costs.

Main Body of the document (three pages):

  • Project outine. This should include Abstract, Significance, Hypothesis, Specific Aims, Outline of Design, Potential Pitfalls/Alternate Strategies and Clinical Relevance/Impact.

 

The pre-proposal would be sent as a PDF attachment to Researchfunding@unthsc.edu.  The subject line of the email would need to include “CPRIT High-Impact/High-Risk Research Award application pre-proposal”. Pre-proposals would be due by November 14, 2016 at 5pm CST.

The limited submission committee will convene to review the pre-proposals following review guidelines.  The committee will provide a recommendation to the Vice President of Research who makes the final decision regarding the internal competition.

 

Notification of Decision to Internal Competitors

Once the VPR approves the nominee(s), the PI and their Dean/Director and the Office of Grants and Contracts Management will be notified by email by the Office of Research Development & Commercialization.  PI’s whose projects were not selected will be notified as well. The aim will be to have notifications out by Nov 22  in order to give the five approved applicants the maximum time to complete their proposals.

 

Submission of Final Proposal to Sponsor

The PI(s) selected to apply for a limited submission opportunity has the responsibility to submit the application in a timely manner through the Proposal Development section of the Office of Grants and Contract Management.

Should the candidate wish to decline the nomination, they need to do so in writing within 5 business days of selection notification to Researchfunding@unthsc.edu.
