Pathway to Stop Diabetes Awards

The American Diabetes Association’s Pathway to Stop Diabetes® is a bold, innovative initiative designed to radically transform diabetes research. As a part of that effort they are soliciting applications for their 2018 Pathway Program Funding Opportunities. A limited submission solicitation is currently open for applications. UNTHSC is allowed one submission for the 2018 funding cycle due by July 2, 2018 for January 1, 2019 funding. The UNTHSC nomination can be for any one of the Pathway Program Award types: Initiator, Accelerator or Visionary.

Awards:

  1. Initiator Award
    1. Award Term: Up to 7 years
    2. Applicant: Postdoctoral Fellow
    3. Maximum Funding: $100,000/year in Phase I, $325,000/year in Phase II
    4. Support: Project support & PI salary
    5. Indirect Support: Up to 10% of directs in Phase I, 30% of directs in Phase II
    6. Citizenship: Authorized to work in U.S. or U.S. possessions
  2. Accelerator Award
    1. Award Term: Up to 5 years
    2. Applicant: Early Career Faculty
    3. Maximum Funding: $325,000/year
    4. Support: Project support & PI salary
    5. Indirect Support: Up to 30% of directs
    6. Citizenship: Authorized to work in U.S. or U.S. possessions
  3. Visionary award
    1. Award Term: Up to 5 years
    2. Applicant: Established Investigators-New to Diabetes Research
    3. Maximum Funding: $325,000/year in Phase I, $325,000/year in Phase II
    4. Support: Project support & PI salary
    5. Indirect Support: Up to 30% of directs
    6. Citizenship: Authorized to work in U.S. or U.S. possessions

If you are interested in submitting an application for any of these awards, you will need to take part in our internal selection process. The two step process begins with the submission of a Pre-Proposal (Step 1) before a nominee is selected to submit a proposal on behalf of UNTHSC (Step 2).

 

Pre-Proposals

Pre-proposals must contain the following components:

  1. Single cover page consisting of the following information:
    1. The specific Pathway award type to which the investigator is interested in applying (Initiator, Accelerator, Visionary)
    2. Principal Investigator and Co-investigator information
    3. Project Title and Abstract (< 250 words)
  1. Specific Aims page, not to exceed one page.
  1. Description of the project, not to exceed five pages, including figures, tables, etc. The narrative should provide an overview of the proposed project and be written with attention to the goals of the specific Pathway award type to which the investigator is interested in applying: (Initiator, Accelerator, Visionary).
  2. Bibliography, not to exceed one page
  3. A maximum 2-page biographical sketch for each principal investigator, co-investigator and key personnel, including a list of current funding.
  4. A maximum 1-page budget narrative providing an overview of the anticipated project budget.

 

Submission

Pre-proposals must be submitted electronically by e-mail to resdev@unthsc.edu as a single .pdf file. Proposals submitted by any other means will not be accepted. Documents should use Calibri 11 pt. font with margins set at narrow (0.5” top, bottom, left and right). Text should be single spaced.

Proposals must be received by 8 AM on Monday, April 16. Proposals received after 8 AM will not be accepted. Incomplete forms, pre-proposals and applications will result in submission triage.
