I’m very pleased to share Dr. Michael Mathis has accepted the role as Dean, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) and will be joining the UNT Health Science Center by the end of February 2019.

Dr. Mathis comes to us from Louisiana State University where he has spent the last five years as Professor and Chair of Comparative Biomedical Sciences in the School of Veterinary Medicine in Baton Rouge, LA. Under his leadership, the Department has grown to 24 full-time faculty members, four administrative team members and two core facilities’ employees. The faculty are comprised of both basic and translational researchers across several disciplines including cancer biology, cellular signaling, developmental biology and anatomy, neuroscience, and pharmacology and toxicology.

Dr. Mathis earned a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center followed by postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Diego. He has also completed a Master’s in Health Administration from LSU Shreveport and an EdD in Higher Education Administration from the University of Alabama.

Dr. Mathis brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this position and will be a great addition to GSBS. Please join me in congratulating and welcoming him to the UNT Health Science Center.
