Message to HSC Students about COVID-19

August 31, 2020 • Office of the Provost

The abrupt transition in the Spring to remote learning was jarring. It required all of us to adapt and rethink how we do every aspect of our daily lives. I am so thankful for you, our extraordinary HSC teams, and our supportive families who ensured our ongoing success.

I am so proud to see how you leaned into this pandemic and exemplified our HSC values through your service to the community. Whether it was volunteering for our drive-thru testing site, responding to questions at the call center, conducting contact tracing, or being there as a supportive friend, I am grateful for your sustained efforts.

We are working diligently to ensure our intensive procedures for cleaning, screening, and space utilization keep you progressing safely and effectively through your Program’s curriculum.

However, I need your help!

Your actions both on and off campus will have an impact on our HSC community. Be a leader in our fight to slow this virus.  Mask up, stay 6+ feet apart, and frequently implement good hygiene including hand washing with soap and water.  Remember, it is not an “either/or” situation as the most effective results are when we do all of these things together to slow the spread and devastation of this virus.

Your actions send powerful messages to those around you and directly impact the health and safety of yourself, your peers, and your loved ones.  As future health care and public health leaders, you have an opportunity to lead by example and I encourage you to do so in all that you do every day.
