Dr. Filipetto joined UNTHSC in 2011 as Chairman of TCOM’s Department of Family Medicine and in 2014 became the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. In 2017, he was named Interim Dean of TCOM where he successfully led TCOM to a 10-year accreditation with exceptional outcome designation by the AOA Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation.

Dr. Filipetto earned his osteopathic medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. His residency training was completed in family medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Prior to joining UNTHSC, he spent 18 years at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in several academic leadership roles including Residency Director and Vice/Acting Chairman of Family Medicine. In 2007, he was named a UMDNJ Master Educator, the highest teaching recognition awarded by the University, for his contributions to medical education.

Dr. Filipetto is excited to continue to lead TCOM as it evolves to meet the shifting landscape of today’s health care system, while staying true to the tenets of osteopathic medicine.

“Our students, alumni, faculty and staff are tremendously proud of TCOM’s rich history of leadership in osteopathic medicine and our success in defining and producing the providers of the future,” Dr. Filipetto said. “We will work together to develop innovative strategies to prepare our students with the skillset to change the way health care is delivered. It is our duty to society”.
