While the news that a loved one’s remains have been identified may not be happy, knowing the truth can bring closure.

The UNT Health Science Center helps give families the resolution that may have eluded them for decades, by assisting law enforcement agencies across the U.S. in identifying missing persons. This work is carried out at the UNT Center for Human Identification (UNTCHI) and NamUs (the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System) with funding from the National Institute of Justice.

One such case is the disappearance of Paula Davis. She went missing from her home in Missouri in 1987. Her remains were identified through NamUs more than two decades later, and eventually interred near her family in Missouri.

Said Stephanie Clack, Davis’ sister, "Thanks to NamUs, Paula is ‘home.’"
