TCOM names new senior associate dean for educational programs

Nash, DO, MS-HPEd, FAAFP, has announced the appointment of Sajid Surve, DO, FAOCPMR, FAAO, as the new senior associate dean for educational programs. He has been serving in that role as the interim since September after being the assistant dean for osteopathic recognition and director of osteopathic education.

“I am thrilled to have Dr. Surve take on this leadership position and continue the sensational work he has been doing as the interim,” Nash said. “He stepped right in as the interim, and we didn’t miss a beat with his leadership. This is a critical role at TCOM, and I know he will continue the great things he has already been doing with graduate medical education, faculty development and our Office of Medical Student Success. I’m very excited to have Dr. Surve in this position.”

Surve led TCOM’s efforts to increase the number of TCOM-affiliated graduate medical education programs awarded Osteopathic Recognition by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. In his interim role, he oversaw TCOM receiving its 10-year Continuing Accreditation as a Sponsoring Institution for GME through the ACGME.

“I’m overjoyed to continue this work with our Office of Educational Programs and GME,” Surve said. “Our Medical Student Success team is the national model for how to support medical students the right way, and our GME and Faculty Development teams continue to expand an innovate. I look forward to guiding these teams to the best versions they can be.”

Dr. Surve joined the Department of Family and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at TCOM in 2014 as TCOM’s first dually-boarded Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine physician. He received a Certificate of Added Qualification in Pain Medicine in 2015.

In addition to his contributions to patient care, he is the founder of the Performing Arts Medicine Division at TCOM, and started Performing Arts Medicine clinics at UNT Denton, Texas Christian University, Texas Women’s University, Fort Worth Opera, the Turtle Creek Chorale, and Texas Ballet Theater, and founded the world’s first physician fellowship in Performing Arts Medicine at UNTHSC in 2019.

Additionally, he has consistently demonstrated his commitment to education by teaching in the first and second-year OMM courses and as course director for the Foundations of OMM course. In 2024, he was conferred as a Fellow of the American Academy of Osteopathy. Surve begins his new role on April 1.
