The institutional safety program at UNT Health Science Center was recently recognized by the State Office of Risk Management with a silver safety award for accident rate reduction in fiscal year 2004.

In 2004, the institutional accident rate was 31.3 percent below the five-year institutional average. The rate was 1.44 injuries per 100 employees, compared to the state average of 4.03 injuries per 100 employees.

â??This award and others we have received over the years are a tribute to the close cooperation of faculty and staff, supervisors, middle managers, and senior management to protect our employees,â? said James Sims, PhD, institutional safety officer.

The safety program at the health science center has garnered gold awards for accident rate reductions in 1993 and 1997; silver awards in 1998 and 2004; and bronze awards in 1995, 2000 and 2003.
