Research Appreciation Day March 6

The Health Science Center will host its annual Research Appreciation Day (RAD) titled  "The Art and Science of Biomedical Research and Health" on March 6 beginning at 8:30 a.m. with research poster presentations and a vendor fair at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center, 1300 Gendy St.  Almost $10,000 will be awarded to top student researchers based on the judges’ opinions of approximately 200 projects.

Josephine P. Briggs, MD, director of the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health, will address the group at 12:15 p.m. at the Alcon Auditorium in the Center for BioHealth.

Dr. Briggs received her degree in biology from Harvard-Radcliffe College and her M.D. from Harvard Medical School. She completed her residency training in internal medicine and nephrology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, followed by a research fellowship in physiology at Yale School of Medicine. She was a professor of internal medicine and physiology at the University of Michigan from 1993 to 1997. From 1997 to 2006 she was director of the Division of Kidney, Urologic and Hematologic Diseases in the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

RAD provides opportunities for students, faculty and staff to share new discoveries in medicine, public health and basic science. The program encourages the development of joint research projects and increases awareness of the quality and range of research conducted at Health Science Center.
