This unique and dynamic partnership is designed to foster a rich environment where medical students, doctoral students and faculty researchers converge. The primary goal of this alliance is to broaden the avenues and experiences for both hands-on clinical learning and fundamental scientific research within the field of ophthalmology. By working side by side, this initiative promises to cultivate a profound appreciation among participants for the intriguing interplay between bench discoveries and patient care and treatment. Ultimately, such direct interactions, will ignite innovation and significantly expand the horizons of discovery in eye care through the critical lens of patient needs.

Through this collaborative effort, NTERI and OIG aspire to cultivate a robust and interconnected community of future researchers and practicing clinicians. A primary objective is to develop a strong network where students can offer mutual support, share their knowledge and learn from each other’s experiences as they advance in their careers in eye care and research.

“It is with genuine excitement and deep honor that we launch this groundbreaking partnership between NTERI and OIG,” said Dimitrios Karamichos, vice president of research and graduate studies and executive director of NTERI. “For the first time, research experts and medical students unite, driving innovation where cutting-edge research meets the future of eye health.”

“This collaboration gives us the chance to contribute meaningfully to research, build valuable relationships, and engage more deeply in the future of ophthalmology,” said Poojan Patel, OMS-II, OIG president.

This initiative not only supports student success but also enhances scientific progress and embodies HSC’s core values: Be Curious, Better Together and Show Your Fire.
