Four HSC School of Public Health Master of Health Administration (MHA) students have received fellowships to pursue their career interests with top institutions around the country following graduation.

Adeola Adelabu has been named as an incoming 2022-23 Administrative Fellow at PeaceHealth, a Vancouver, Washington, based not-for-profit health care system serving urban and rural communities across Washington, Oregon and Alaska. The PeaceHealth network includes approximately 16,000 caregivers, a medical group practice with more than 1,100 providers, and 10 medical centers throughout the Northwest. Adelabu interned with PeaceHealth in 2021 through their Summer Enrichment Program, in collaboration with the Institute for Diversity and Health Equity and the American Hospital Association.  

“As I inch closer toward graduation, I look back and can’t help but feel grateful for all the lessons I’ve learned from the faculty and staff here at HSC and, of course, my classmates,” Adelabu said. “Through the program, I’ve had opportunity to learn from subject matter experts, gain a better understanding of what it truly means to be a better leader within health care, and network with various health care leaders.”  

 “My internship provided the opportunity to translate the knowledge I gained during my first year in the MHA program to real-world projects that positively impacted PeaceHealth and the communities they serve. I’m excited to be returning to the Pacific Northwest post-graduation and look forward to serving their urban and rural communities,” she said. 

Lauren Horton has been selected as one of two administrative fellows at UT Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW), Dallas. UTSW is Magnet Recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center with the profession’s highest honor, for organizations designing nursing goals to improve patient outcomes. UTSW is ranked as one of the “Best Places to Work” by the Dallas Business Journal and as the #1 Hospital in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex by U.S. News and World Report.

The fellowship, Horton said, represents a system-wide program with over 13 core rotations throughout the hospital with two additional elective rotations.  

“I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to immerse myself in learning throughout UTSW,” Horton said. “I’m extremely grateful for our MHA program in preparing me for the fellowship journey through mentorship, interview prep and professional development opportunities. I’m beyond excited to begin the fellowship program in July 2022 and look forward to the 18 months of learning.”

Sarah Lathrop has accepted an offer to join Cone Health as a 2022-2024 Administrative Fellow in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Cone Health has been named the Best Regional Hospital and High Performing by U.S. News and World Report and has achieved the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Designation within its multi-hospital system. The organization has been recognized as one that embodies the values of caring for patients, coworkers and community. Cone Health is among the top 10% of all hospitals in the nation for patient safety in 10 clinical areas, as recognized by the 2022 CareChex® Awards of Quantros Inc.

“Through the application process, I consistently reflected on my HSC experiences,” Lathrop said. “My MHA cohort classes prepared me for team-based activities, utilizing my internship experience and telling my story.”

“Along with the exposure to case competitions, professional organizations and networking, I impressed leadership as I interviewed and presented my strategic plan. I am grateful for the knowledge gained from HSC, and I’m looking forward to my time at Cone Health.”

Stacee Rowland will be joining Ochsner Health System, southeast Louisiana’s non-profit, academic, multi-specialty health care delivery system, as an Administrative Operations Fellow in July 2022.

Ochsner is committed to improving community health through the “Healthy State by 2030” initiative, to help Louisiana toward ranking among the top 40 states in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services “Healthy People 2030” challenge.

“HSC’s MHA program has prepared me for a fellowship in various ways. The personalized feel that comes with a cohort is extremely unique and allows you to ensure you are developed into an innovative leader,” Rowland said.

“I am looking forward to making an impact within the state of Louisiana,” she added, “and aiding Ochsner Health in meeting its goal by 2030.”
