Internationally renowned cancer scientist to speak at Research Appreciation Day

Isaiah J. Fidler, DVM, PhD, a pioneer in understanding how cancer spreads to other organs, will be the noon luncheon keynote speaker for the 22nd annual Research Appreciation Day on March 21.

Dr. Fidler was instrumental in revealing the origins of metastasis and is recognized worldwide for his contributions to the understanding of how cancer spreads from primary tumors. His current research focuses on metastatic brain cancer and developing a new approach to treating these deadly tumors.

After earning his veterinary medicine degree from Oklahoma State University, Dr. Fidler earned a doctorate in human pathology from the University of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine.

He is a professor at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and director of the Cancer Metastasis Research Center.

Research Appreciation Day is an institutional tradition that provides students, faculty and staff with an opportunity to share their research work with the campus community and the public.

The poster session starts at 8:30 a.m. and posters will be displayed until 3:30 p.m. A panel of judges will select the top presentation in each category. Prizes will be awarded during a ceremony.
