HSC elevates focus with new college names, addition of Graduate School

HSC SignThe University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth today announced it would launch a new Graduate School to enhance graduate education and rename three of its schools to better clarify their focuses.

Effective Sept. 1, HSC will establish a new Graduate School under the leadership of Dr. Tom Cunningham, interim vice provost. The Graduate School will serve as a central hub for supporting research-intensive master’s, doctoral and dual degree programs. It will focus on aligning graduate education with HSC’s research enterprise, ensuring a seamless and exceptional student experience and coordinating administrative services across various programs. Coordination of HSC’s professional degrees will continue within their respective colleges.

“Our continued growth is creating opportunities for new degree programs and interdisciplinary training,” Cunningham said. “The Graduate School will help us make the most of these opportunities by facilitating collaboration among existing programs and standardizing certain aspects of research-heavy degree programs so we can serve our students better.”

In addition, to further clarify the distinction in definition between colleges, which offer degrees, and schools, which provide administrative support, three HSC schools will be renamed on Sept. 1:

  • School of Health Professions to College of Health Professions
  • School of Public Health to College of Public Health
  • School of Biomedical Sciences to College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences. The addition of “Translational Sciences” underscores the college’s commitment to bridging the gap between research and real-world applications.

HSC’s three other colleges – the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Pharmacy and College of Nursing – will retain their current names.

These strategic changes position HSC as a leading institution dedicated to advancing health care through innovative research and education.
