CARDARELLI NAMED FELLOW BY FOUNDATION FOR COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT

Kathryn Cardarelli, PhD, assistant professor of epidemiology at UNT Health Science Center, was recently named a fellow by the Foundation for Community Empowerment.

Dr. Cardarelli is one of six scholars to receive the two-year fellowship from the organization. The fellowship is designed to support research efforts in applied research and policy analysis of issues that impact urban areas. Dr. Cardarelliâ??s research will focus on reducing health disparities by studying the influence of educational attainment on health.

As part of Dr. Cardarelliâ??s fellowship, she wrote a journal-length scholarly paper â??Education Policy as Health Promotion,â? that will be published in the Williams Institute Review, an annual journal. The paper is also available at the foundationâ??s website www.fcedallas.org.

The Foundation for Community Empowerment was formed in 1993 by Trammell Crow Chairman Emeritus J. McDonald Williams to revitalize the lower-income neighborhoods of Dallas. Fellowships are given by the J. McDonald Williams Institute, the research arm of the Foundation for Community Empowerment.

Dr. Cardarelli currently resides in Fort Worth.
