Pharmacology and Neuroscience

Class of 2019

Who I am

I am a graduate student researcher working in the field of vision science and ophthalmology. I have always been interested in biology and understanding how things work. In high school, I decided I wanted to go into either medicine or research. My end goal is improving human life.

Why I want to be a scientist

I like learning new things and solving problems on a daily basis. I enjoy the interaction with brilliant minds and learning from their experiences. I also like having the opportunity to do scientific research involving eye diseases and doing community service work such as vision screening. I want to make a difference in people’s lives.

What I like about UNTHSC

Although I came from a small institution, UNTHSC saw my potential and gave me a chance to succeed. I feel like the staff members are heavily invested in my success and genuinely want me to succeed. I love that everyone here has an open-door policy, which I feel is something you do not get
at bigger institutions.
