Outreach Programs

The UNT Health Science Center created a novel Coordinated Plan to increase the number of underrepresented minorities in biomedical education and research. The plan includes funded and non-funded programs designed to:

1. Enhance awareness of educational opportunities for students in K-12
2. Provide training in academic skills and in focused biomedical research for underrepresented college students and faculty from partner institutions
3. Increase financial and economic opportunities for graduate students during both masters and doctoral studies.

The University of North Texas Health Science Center has received recognition for its longstanding history of programs aimed at increasing diversity within the scientific community. These awards include the Award for Excellence in Minority Recruitment from the National Association of Graduate Admissions Professionals, designation as an NIH-Minority Access Role Model Institution, and the President’s Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering from the National Science Foundation.
