imageDr. Nicole Phillips has been selected as a funded collaborator with the Oklahoma Nathan Shock Center of Excellence for the Biology of Aging based on her proposal Sex, epigenetics and mitochondria in age-related cognitive. She will be working with the Targeted DNA Methylation & Mitochondrial Heteroplasmy Core to characterize methylation patterns of polymerase gamma, as well as mtDNA, which may help explain sex-based differences in mitochondrial DNA copy number in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease.

Planz, Associate Professor in the Institute of Molecular Medicine, received the Inaugural Faculty Achievement Award at the UNT Health Science Center Commencement ceremony, May 20, 2017. Dr. Planz was one of five finalists for the honor who were selected by a committee of peers led by the Faculty Senate.
