The Horsman McFadden HSC Team Member Scholarship FAQs

1. Q: When is the scholarship application due?
A: Submit no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, August 20th, at rhs@unthsc.edu.

2. Q: Are all team members eligible to apply?
A: All team members located on the HSC campus and satellite facilities are eligible to apply. Must be a current HSC or UNT System team member who has been employed on the HSC campus and satellite facilities full-time for at least one year and who has a good standing from their review.

3. Q: Are Team members’ dependent(s) eligible to apply?
A: The parent or guardian must be employed with the HSC or UNT System (located on the HSC Campus or one of its off-site locations) full-time for at least one year. Their spouse or dependent child are eligible to apply. Dependent child must be under the age of 25.

4. Q: May a HSC team member and dependent apply for this scholarship?
A: Yes, both may apply for consideration to receive this scholarship and there is no limit on the number of dependents that apply for this scholarship at one time.

6. Q: May I apply and receive this award more than once?
A: Students (both team members and dependents) may apply for this award annually. In addition, students may be selected to receive the scholarship more than once.

7. Q: What happens if I don’t return all the required materials by the acceptance deadline to receive my scholarship?
A: Your award will be forfeited and may be awarded to another scholarship applicant.

8. Q: What needs to be included in my letter?
A: See criteria – benefit to current HSC team member, position or family member; alignment with HSC Values; and other considerations such as financial ability, first person in family to pursue degree, positive extracurricular activities/involvement, etc.

9. Q: How do I obtain my transcript?
A: You can contact your institution’s Registrar’s office or locate this on your student portal.

10. Q: What criteria are used to evaluate the scholarship applications?
A: Academic performance – 3.0 GPA or higher; quality of application letter; benefit to current HSC team member, position or family member; alignment with HSC Values; and other considerations such as financial ability, first person in family to pursue degree, positive extracurricular activities/involvement, etc.

11. Q: How do I know what the status of my scholarship application is?
A: When applications are received prior to the deadline, applicants will receive an email confirmation indicating receipt. All applications are deemed under review until email notification has been sent to applicants indicating the committee’s final decision.

12. Q: When will we be notified of the award?
A: All applicants will be notified, regardless of whether or not an applicant is awarded a scholarship, by October 1, 2020.

13. Q: If I’m selected to receive a scholarship award, what else do I need to do to obtain
the funds?
A: Write a thank you letter to the committee, obtain/return your enrollment verification, and return award acceptance letter to rhs@unthsc.edu.

14. Q: Where do I find official enrollment verification or proof of enrollment from my
institution?
A: You can contact your institution’s Registrar’s office or locate this on your student portal.

15. Q: Why does it have to be after the 12th class day?
A: We need to ensure you are past the course drop deadline.

16. Q: How do I request my scholarship check?
A: You will receive a check payable to your institution or the check can be sent directly to the institution on your behalf.

17. Q: How often is this scholarship awarded?
A: Once per year in alignment with the HSC fiscal year.

18. Q: Is it a one-time payment or can it be spread out through the academic year?
A: Our scholarship is awarded through a one-time payment on your behalf to your institution.
