We’re celebrating American Pharmacists Month and National Pharmacy Week; get a flu shot today

As we celebrate American Pharmacists Month and National Pharmacy Week in October, the UNT System College of Pharmacy shines a light on the pharmacy profession and the important contributions pharmacists make to health care.

Our own student pharmacists are administering free flu shots for all UNTHSC employees and students every Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Nov. 5 in IREB 100. They’ve already administered around 900 vaccinations!

Student organizations are also celebrating throughout the week with a host of activities, including Donuts with the Dean and a student organization fair on Oct. 16, noon to 1 p.m. in the IREB lobby.

A few facts about pharmacy:

• Pharmacists are highly accessible to help patients with many health care needs including medication safety and advice, vaccinations, patient education, health screenings and more.

• Pharmacists work in community pharmacies, clinics, hospitals, academia, pharmaceutical companies, other healthcare environments and more.

• There are more than 21,000 licensed pharmacists in Texas and nearly 6,000 alone in the DFW Metroplex.

• The role of pharmacists goes above and beyond the traditional model of dispensing medication.
