We Are Here to Heal

From the HSC Office of the President to HSC Students, Faculty and Staff

HSC Family,

The senseless violence that occurred in Boulder, Colorado, on Monday was another tragedy in a week that saw far too much heartbreak. On behalf of HSC, I want to extend our deepest condolences to those affected by the recent tragedies in Boulder and Atlanta.

At HSC, where we are committed to improving the health and well-being of others, it is difficult for us to understand what causes people to harm those around them. We are here to heal. The events of the past week remind us of the enormity of our responsibility to serve others, even in their most dire moments.

The tragedies also remind us to look out for one another. This violence of the past week weighs on us even as we mark one year of the COVID-19 pandemic. The social, financial and emotional toll of the pandemic have been difficult for so many. Let us all continue to support and uplift fellow team members who are struggling and to pursue our purpose to transform lives in order to improve the lives of others.

Please know that HSC has resources to support you. If you are a student, please take advantage of our Student Support Program available through the HSC Office of Care and Civility. Employees who would like additional support can access the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Please do not hesitate to seek help.

Thank you for everything you do.

With appreciation,

Dr. Michael R. Williams
