Want to help improve how we diagnose the sacrum?

We are looking for volunteers for a research study on: Comparative Accuracy of Physician Palpation Of Sacral Anatomical Landmarks Versus Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Evaluation.

The purpose of this research is to compare the musculoskeletal ultrasound evaluation of the sacral anatomical landmarks versus examination by physician palpation. Three senior osteopathic physicians and two resident physicians will conduct the palpation examinations.

Volunteers must:
?Be 18 years of age or older
?Male or female
?Have no history of lumbosacral trauma, lumbosacral laminectomy or fusion surgeries, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or other arthritic conditions
?Be able to lie prone (on your front) for up to one hour (pregnant women will be allowed to participate in this study as long as they are able to lie prone for up to one hour)
?Be a current UNTHSC student

Testing will involve exposing the sacral area; study participants are required to have a chaperone but will have the option of choosing a chaperone or being randomly assigned one to be present in the room. Participation involves one day of clinical testing; lasting a maximum of three hours.

There are no foreseeable risks associated with participating in this research study. The investigator does not anticipate any risks to pregnant women and/or their fetuses from participating in this research study. You may receive no direct benefit from participating in this study. The data derived from this study may be used to improve the way sacral somatic dysfunction is diagnosed and taught to future medical students.
