“Partnering with Biomedical Engineering at UNT”

The department of Biomedical Engineering was established formally in fall 2014. It started as an undergraduate program admitting freshmen, with a faculty of 1. Starting with 45 majors, the department has now grown to 292 students with 8 faculty. Research expenditures have grown every year and the department has research expertise in areas ranging from biomaterials to nanotechnology and tissue engineering. The department is 6 years old and our 3-year-old graduate program has grown to add more curricular features including options in AI and management. We have settled in our new, 26,000 sq. ft. building equipped with state-of-the-art labs and classrooms. The department hopes to add a new, innovative Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering in the fall of 2021. This is a great time for the UNTHSC faculty to work with Biomedical Engineering faculty in joint research endeavors. The department also has a makerspace that is used extensively by its undergraduate students in senior design projects. This represents another avenue for collaboration between the two institutions.
