Two Zeiss LSM 880 Confocal Microscopes coming to the Microscopy Core

The Division of Research and Innovation announces the purchase of two new confocal microscopes for the Microscopy Core Laboratory.

The Zeiss LSM 880 Confocal Inverted Microscope with Super-Resolution Airyscan detector and Fast Mode acquisition capabilities will be used to capture high quality images of samples of cells, tissues, organs and other biological systems. The existing inverted confocal microscope at UNTHSC, the Zeiss Model 510, will continue to be available for needs that can be met by a lower resolution instrument.

The LSM 880 Confocal Upright Microscope and Multiphoton System will be used to capture high quality images of live-animal tissues and organs and will provide capabilities that don’t currently exist at UNTHSC.

Delivery and installation of the microscopes is expected by August. An information session about the new confocal microscopes will offered in June.

Acquisition of the confocal microscopes is a part of planned investments in research infrastructure at UNTHSC. Additional upgrades to core laboratories will be announced in the near future. These investments are being made as a part of UNTHSC’s commitment to the See2020 strategic plan and the growth of research at UNTHSC.
