Greetings HSC students! Time to celebrate our 5th and final week of “Career Readiness Month,” during which we will spotlight the Career Readiness Skill of Intercultural Fluency. It goes without saying that we live in an increasingly global society, and now more than ever are being impacted by trends and events that occur all over the world, sometimes in an instance.
To understand and practice Intercultural Fluency, we must illustrate individually and in groups that we adhere to the UNTHSC definition as follows:
• Values, respects, and learns from diverse cultures, races, ages, genders, sexual orientations, and religions.
• Demonstrates an openness, inclusiveness, sensitivity, and the ability to interact respectfully with all people and understand individuals’ differences.
While communicating in our everyday interactions, particularly with those from different backgrounds, cultures, and any of the various walks of life, it is imperative that we are able to be fluent in responding meaningfully to these differences. This also includes being able to navigate ourselves effectively while networking among other professionals, either while actively in the job market, or just building up our connections.

Tuesday, April 28 – “Networking Etiquette: How to Shine in an Intercultural World.” (12:00-12:45 via Zoom)
In the vast and competitive job market, how can candidates make themselves standout among those in an ever-diversifying world of cultures and backgrounds? Effective networking requires not only awareness but also skill in practicing etiquette that acknowledges and respects those who may be accustomed to different standards than what be our own cultural norms.
