The Book Club returns this Spring to discuss “Blind Spots” by Marty Makary, MD. In the book, Makary walks readers through what medicine can sometimes get wrong, the flawed or outdated methods in practice, and what can lead to “blind spots” in medicine.
Makary highlights systemic issues in medicine throughout his book and breaks down examples in various categories, from allergies to women’s healthcare. Through these examples he identifies the “blind spots” that arise in various aspects of practice and offers his critique and analysis of them.
First- and second-year TCOM students are invited to join Dr. John Licciardone, Regents Professor, as he again moderates the Book Club discussions. Interested students must submit the online form at https://www.unthsc.edu/tcombookclub by January 15, 2025 to be considered for inclusion in this Book Club selection.
Up to 15 TCOM students may be chosen to participate. A complimentary copy of the book will be provided, and students must attend all three lunch-hour sessions on campus on February 5th, February 19th, and March 5, 2025 to discuss the assigned portions of the book. Students may bring their own lunch to the sessions.
