The Book Club returns this Fall to discuss “The End of Medicine as We Know it – and Why Your Health has a Future” by Harald Schmidt, MD, PhD. The book has been hailed as a visionary, provocative, and insightful perspective to the past, present, and future of medical science and clinical practice.
Schmidt predicts that digitization will radically change healthcare delivery and lead to one of the greatest socioeconomic revolutions of mankind. As a pioneer of systems medicine, he critically evaluates the state of organ-based medicine and chronic disease management, including the roles of Big Pharma and health insurers, and offers his vision for the future.
First- and second-year TCOM students are invited to join Dr. John Licciardone, Regents Professor, as he again moderates the Book Club discussions. Interested students must submit their name by email to Samantha.Johnson@unthsc.edu by 12:00 Noon on Monday, August 12, 2024 to be considered for inclusion in this Book Club selection.
Up to 15 TCOM students may be chosen to participate. A complimentary copy of the book will be provided, and students must attend all three lunch-hour sessions on campus on August 21, September 11, and October 2, 2024 to discuss the assigned portions of the book. Students may bring their own lunch to the sessions.
