The “Contemporary Issues in Medicine” Book Club returns this Fall Semester

Last Spring the Book Club discussed “The Price We Pay: What Broke American Health Care – And How To Fix It,” by the New York Times best-selling author, Marty Makary, MD.

This Fall, the Book Club will read “The AI Revolution in Medicine: GPT-4 and Beyond,” the #1 Amazon best seller in Biomedical Engineering, by Peter Lee, PhD, Carey Goldberg, and Isaac Kohane, MD, PhD. The book describes the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence and explores its potential uses and boundaries within medicine.

TCOM Class of 2026 students are invited to join Dr. John Licciardone, Regents Professor, as he again moderates the Book Club discussions. Interested students must submit their names by email to Cathleen.Kearns@unthsc.edu by Friday, July 21 to be considered for inclusion in the Book Club this semester. Previous Book Club participants are not eligible.

A lottery will be used to randomly select up to 15 students who will receive further details about acquiring their complimentary copy of the book and other Book Club information. These students will then attend two lunch-hour sessions on campus on August 8 and August 30 to discuss the assigned chapters of the book. Lunch will not be provided, but students may bring their lunch to the sessions.
