Thank you to all who attended the 16th Annual Texas Conference on Health Disparities

We want to give a special thank you to HSC’s students, faculty and staff who attended the 16th Annual Texas Conference on Health Disparities on June 10 and 11. Nearly 500 people tuned in to the conference and engaged with our speakers during our Q&A sessions.

With this year’s theme being “Community Approaches to Health Equity,” we heard from a variety of presenters who shared the progress on tackling misinformation and mistrust in COVID-19 related health disparities.

Our keynote speaker—Dr. Peter Hotez from the Baylor College of Medicine—discussed the history of vaccine hesitancy and how it impacted the pandemic. Dr. Monica Webb Hooper from the National Institute on Minority Health & Health Disparities also spoke on how the NIH Community Engagement Alliance (CEAL) is helping to combat COVID-19 disparities. Attendees also learned about Tarrant County’s response to the pandemic from Vinny Taneja, the Health Department Director for Tarrant County Public Health.

HSC’s efforts in reducing minority health disparities from COVID-19 and other chronic diseases continue. To learn more about these projects, please visit HSC’s Texas Center for Health Disparities’ website: https://www.unthsc.edu/tchd/.
