TCOM staff member Tony Martinez passes away, service Saturday

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tony Martinez, a beloved member of HSC’s Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine staff for the past 29 years. Martinez served as the senior education tech support with TCOM’s academic affairs.

Tony was passionate and dedicated to his position at TCOM, supporting the students, faculty and staff whenever a need arose. He was always there to help the medical students at TCOM but also gave generously of his time to all of our UNTHSC family when they needed help.

Martinez was born on Sept. 6, 1971, in Fort Worth, to Josephine G. Rivas. He was a graduate of North Side High School and Southern Methodist University.  Martinez was passionate about his hobbies and gaming interests, which included sci-fi and anime.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jose Gomez and Martina Gomez; and his cousin, Adrian Garza.

Martinez is survived by his mother, Josephine G. Rivas; sister, Veronica M. Rivas; brother, Michael Martinez, and wife, Melanie Martinez; sister, Melissa Martinez-Webber, and husband, Treeve Webber; nephews and nieces, Max Martinez, Micah Martinez, Melissa Perez and Naomi Monsivais; and great-nephews and great-nieces, Jacob Munoz, Mateo Perez, Roman Monsivais and Aurora Monsivais.

His funeral will be at noon Saturday, Dec. 7 at Mount Olivet Cemetery2301 N Sylvania Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76111.  His family has shared that members of the HSC community are welcome to send flowers/arrangements for the service and that anyone is welcome to attend the funeral. They also encouraged everyone to dress up in a way that Tony would enjoy — such as a comic or Harry Potter character. Traditional funeral dress is also OK.
