Student Leadership Academy needs your assistance!

We are pleased to announce that UNTHSC is introducing the Student Leadership Academy, a new leadership program based on Our Values and open to all UNTHSC Students. This leadership program uses a holistic approach to provide a solid foundation in leadership philosophies, skills, and growth through collaboration and learning. This program is designed for both current and aspiring student leaders interested in gaining in-depth knowledge and training in leadership.

We need Faculty/ Staff assistance in two ways:
1. As a Faculty Mentor
2. Helping spread the word about the program to your students!

Mentor information:

All profiles must be completed by August 1st 2015. We will use the submitted mentor profiles to match student participants with mentors. Please note that submitting a profile does not guarantee that you will have a match for this current program cycle.

Mentor Time Commitment:

– Mandatory Orientation for three hours on a Saturday in September
– Monthly mentoring sessions with their mentee (via Skype, phone, or face to face meeting)
– Each semester, one of the monthly meetings must be a face to face mentoring session with mentee (in addition to Orientation)

Program Information:
– Application opens May 1st 2015 and closes at 5pm on August 1st 2015

– Students must be enrolled for both fall 2015 and spring 2016 semesters
– 75% of their classes must be on-campus
– Limited spaces available (open to all UNTHSC disciplines)
– Program length: One academic year from September to May
– Mandatory Orientation of program expectations.

Benefits of the Student Leadership Academy:
– Students can expect special speakers, one- on- one faculty/staff mentors, and interactive workshops.
– Learn, grow, and develop alongside fellow colleagues in areas of leadership foundation and philosophies, personal and professional development, and engage in interactive activities and workshops.
– Upon program completion each participant will receive a program certificate.
– Topics covered will include: Strengths-Based Leadership, Cultural Diversity, Professional Communication, Leadership Essentials, and a Culminating Service Project.
