Student Coaching Program: Seeking Volunteers to Coach Students

Calling all Coaches—and those curious about coaching students! The HSC Career Center and Office of Care and Civility (OCC) are piloting a campus-wide Student Coaching program that will launch on September 1 (OCC manages Wellness Coaching as a separate process). We are seeking volunteer faculty and staff who would like to serve in this role, even those without prior experience. For the time being, all coaching activities will be conducted by virtual means.

The role of Student Coach will not overlap or replace existing advising, instruction, or other ongoing student support services; rather, student coaching will be a separate process from assigned departmental duties. Our hope is that students will seek coaching on their own accord as a supplement to other forms of campus advising in pursuit of their own personal and professional development.

Students will be matched with a faculty/staff Coach based on alignment of identified preferences and mutual availability. If you are interested, please submit the Student Coaching Interest Form (also found here: https://unthsc.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2npY5aZ3FXxPG5L) by Friday, July 31. Once we are able to establish a substantial Coach pool, we will begin matching interested students with Coaches based on student demand. Training sessions will be provided for all those who are new to the Coach role.

Thank you for your consideration. For additional information, please contact Jimmy Renfro in the Division of Student Affairs at james.renfro@unthsc.edu.
