SPH Solutions Series – Developing Ways to Accurately Identify Medication Exposure and Trends from Claims Data

Rafia Rasu is a health services researcher specializing in pharmaco-epidemiology, outcomes research, and health economic evaluations. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Texas School of Public Health, graduating with a Delta Omega Honorary Society Award. Prior to joining UNTHSC in 2018, she held positions at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and the University of Kansas. Dr. Rasu has received federal funding for her research evaluating prescription trends, medication exposure, effectiveness, and identifying ways to improve care. These multidisciplinary research projects have generated more than 40 peer reviewed publications and been featured in national news publications, including the New York Times and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Innovations Exchange. She received the “Apple Polisher’ award for teaching, and in 2017 earned the Health Literacy Trail Blazer Award from the Kansas Public Health Association.
