“Mechanisms of Exercise Intolerance in Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction”

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF or diastolic heart failure) is rapidly growing in prevalence, reaching near epidemic scope among older adults. Treatment options are limited for patients suggesting the fundamental biologic mechanisms of HFpEF are not well understood. We will review risk factors which contribute to the biology of HFpEF, and how these factors may influence disease progression and impair exercise capacity in patients with HFpEF.
