As part of its mission to eliminate preventable harm, SaferCare Texas partnered with the national youth program, Kappa League, to equip young leaders with critical life-saving skills.
On February 15, twenty-five young men, along with their program leaders, participated in hands-on training in Narcan administration, Hands-Only CPR and Stop the Bleed. Each participant had the opportunity to practice these essential skills, engage in interactive discussions, and earn a certification upon completion.
“It was such an honor to host this impressive group of young men,” said Justin Burton, Director of SaferCare Texas. “Their active participation, curiosity, and maturity is a testament to the amazing success and leadership of Kappa League.”
Established in 1969 by Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Kappa League is dedicated to fostering leadership and personal development in young men. This collaboration brought together participants from across the metroplex, empowering them with valuable knowledge and skills they can share within their communities.
“Empowering young men with life-saving skills is more than just training—it’s about fostering leadership, responsibility, and community impact,” said Marcus Taylor, Instructional Designer for UNTHSC Division of Academic Innovation. Taylor is also the Guide Right Director and Program Director for the Denton-Lewisville Kappa League.
“This experience reinforces our commitment to developing well-rounded leaders who are not only academically and professionally prepared but also equipped to serve and protect their communities,” Taylor said.
By providing this training, SaferCare Texas and Kappa League aim to create a lasting impact, equipping future leaders with the confidence and ability to respond effectively in emergencies. Burton hopes that this event strengthens community preparedness and inspires the next generation of medical professionals.
“Our team looks forward to seeing what incredible things these students will accomplish and furthering our partnership to provide skills and resources to future members,” Burton said.
