Recruiting Volunteers for Research Study

This is an advertisement seeking volunteers to participate in a research study entitled:

?Blood Gas Threshold for Sympathoexcitation: The Role of Oxidative Stress?

The University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) is looking for up to 150 subjects to take part in a study that will assess various cardiovascular parameters during normal breathing and breath-holding under changing oxygen tension and how these change with antioxidant ingestion.

You must be 18-80 years old. We are recruiting individuals affected with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) at all stages of treatment and healthy age- and weight-matched controls.

Risks of the study are slight, but include and are not limited to: numbness/paresthesia in area of electrode insertion site, dizziness from breathing maneuvers and bruising due to venous catheter insertion. Study personnel are willing to address any concerns about risks associated with participation over the phone, in person or by email.

Study Requirements:
? Visit the laboratory in the Department of Integrative Physiology at UNTHSC on 9 separate days.
o One Familiarization session;
approx. 1 hour
o Six Ingestion periods:
laboratory personnel will
supervise ingestion of test
articles; six ingestion
periods total, approx. 30
minutes each
o Two Experimental sessions;
approx. 2-3 hours each day.

Participation in this study is voluntary, and if you are a student or employee of UNTHSC your participation (or non-participation) in this study will in no way affect your academic standing or employment. Subjects will be compensated for their time and effort

If you are interested in participating in this study as a research subject, please contact Noah Jouett via email (noah.jouett@live.unthsc.edu) or phone (817-735-0219)
