Reconsidering Scholarship: Predatory Publishing Session #2
June 4, 2019 2:00 pm-3:00 pm
Location: IREB 230

Have you ever received an email invitation to publish in a journal you’ve never heard of with promises of lightning-fast peer-review and publication times? Or, have you ever found yourself listed on an editorial board that you have no recollection of joining? If so, you’ve probably heard of predatory publishing. Learn about this growing problem in the sciences from librarians at Gibson D. Lewis Library and how to avoid falling prey to a predatory publisher. Participants will:

• Define predatory publishers; discuss red flags and common predatory practices
• Discuss legitimate open access publishing practices and how to find a high-quality open access journal
• Practice identifying predatory publishers with real-life examples

Facilitators:
